Summary

Make Your Movewill be a practical, action-oriented book that is packed with solutions to problems that hundreds of thousands of businesses regularly face. In clear, nontechnical language, it will tell readers precisely what steps to take and when to take them. Many of the solutions that we recommend are counterintuitive; so, without this book, readers would be hard pressed to learn about them on their own. As a result, they would miss golden opportunities and could jeopardize their futures. For example, during Phase A of the business cycle, the economy is improving so businesses must become aggressive and make firm plans and commit to expenditures to capitalize on the upcoming boom. However, most will not. They, like most of those around them, will be stuck in recession mindsets: hoarding money, employing skeletal staffs and keeping inventories low. They will be afraid to change and will just sit tight, which will decrease their future profits and affect their very survival.

Author Biography

Alan Beaulieu is an economist and a principal of the Institute for Trend Research (ITR), where he serves as Executive Vice President and as a senior analyst. Since 1990, he has been consulting and advising companies throughout the US, Europe, and Japan on how to forecast, plan for and improve their profits because of future changes in the business cycle. He is the author of numerous articles for trade publications and his workshops and economic analysis seminars have helped thousands of business owners and executives.

Alan specializes in applied research regarding business-cycle trend analysis, growth-cycle trend analysis, and the utilization of cyclical analysis at a practical business level. He is a featured speaker at corporate and trade association meetings both in the U.S. and overseas and makes about 150 personal appearances each year. He has spoken to thousands of business leaders in manufacturing, healthcare, distribution, real estate, construction, and technology forums.

Prior to joining (ITR), Alan operated and was a partner in private business, where he developed great practical expertise. From the early 1980s to the early 1990s, he was an adjunct faculty member at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH, a position he loved and that prepared him to get business leaders to understand and apply business cycle economics.

Brian Beaulieu has been an economist with ITR since 1982 and its Executive Director since 1987. He is also Chief Economist for Vistage International and TEC, global organizations comprised of over 13,000 CEO’s. At the Institute, Brian has been engaged in applied research regarding business cycle trend analysis and the utilization of that research at a practical business level. He has made frequent television appearances on outlets that include Fox, CNBC and Canadian TV. For the past 25 years, Brian has been providing workshops and economic-analysis seminars across the US and Canada to literally thousands of business owners and executives.

Prior to joining the Institute, Brian was an economist in Washington, DC for the US Department of Labor where he worked on the health care component of the Consumer Price Index. Before his service with the federal government, he was in private industry in Boston, MA as a financial manager.

Brian has authored dozens of articles for trade publications and hundreds of in-depth forecast reports for corporations. He is a regular columnist and contributing economist to national trade associations and publications.
