Summary
The concept for this inaugural book is to tell a doggy life lesson through Betsy's adventure filled stories. At the end of the book, Betsy asks her readers a question to give each child a text to self connection opportunity. In this opportunity, students are able to reflect on the story and relate the story to their own life experiences. When children are prompted to write from their own personal experiences, they are better able to express their own thoughts. It is her hope that the children will enjoy the invitation to read and write and thus simultaneously grow in both areas.
Author Biography
Being in kindergarten, Karen integrated a strong connection between reading and writing. She feels it is crucial to develop both of those skills simultaneously. She also connected literature with writing experiences. Children need to build strong linkages between reading and being able to write in conjunction with reading is crucial. Dana Regan has illustrated more than 85 books for a variety of publishers, including Scholastic, Random House, Penguin, Grosset & Dunlap, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster. She has enjoyed creating many Hidden Picture Puzzles for High Five and Highlights Magazine and recently illustrated a story about the solar eclipse for Click Magazine.
Another highlight project was illustrating "Once Upon A View" for The View on ABC. Their Halloween show theme was "Storybook Characters" and she drew the ladies of The View as fairytale characters in a story with a bit of animation for the show's open..
