Author Biography

Deborah Hopkinson's first picture book, Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt, was also illustrated by James Ransome and received the 1994 International Reading Association Children's Book Award. She is the author of Fannie in the Kitchen, Maria's Comet, and A Band of Angels, winner of the Golden Kite Award. Ms. Hopkinson lives in Walla Walla, Washington, with her husband, artist Andrew Thomas, and their two children.
